Week 20
Hey everyone!
This week was a pretty exciting one haha. From time to time something different happens and this week I have two things to share, first is that we are teaching a young man directly from Kenya, we found him on a Christian Facebook page and started chatting, this week we will have our third call with him, internet can be such a blessing, his name is John and hopefully he will soon be able to meet in person with missionaries who are serving in Kenya.
The second thing is that we were asked to help as “English Mentors” where we can teach newcomers to speak English and our first “contact” was a man called Jonathan who native’s language is Spanish. We were surprised to learn that he didn’t speak ANY English at all (for some reason we thought he would know some basic words, lol) and of course we didn’t speak any Spanish either, we kind panicked for a short second and then I tried using my Portuguese. It was great, we were able to teach him half of the lesson using my Portuguese and half using objects that Elder Whitney would find around the chapel to show him and teach what they were called. Two exciting encounters to say the least, I am grateful for my Brazilian roots and for my parents teaching me their native language.
We also had a bunch of opportunities to message people as we recently put out leaf raking service ads! They are a huge hit especially at this time of year, and so we've gotten quite busy responding to all the messages.
I was also able to hang out a bunch with other missionaries serving near me which has been a blessing, tons of fun to hang out with them. Overall I'm doing great over here and I'm excited to see what comes this upcoming week!
One last thing I'd like to share is a scripture I have been studying recently, and it comes from the old testament in the Book of Isaiah. It's Isaiah 41:10 and it says "Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness." I love this verse! It gives me so much comfort to know that God is always with us and can comfort us when we feel troubled. I hope you can come to know of this for yourself as well!
Hope you're all doing well,
