Weeks 47, 48 & 49
Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy! I've been really slacking, so I'll try my best to summarize what happened so far.
Week 47
Actually wasn't super eventful, we continued to work hard to find new friends and helped many of our ESL friends make more progress with their English work. We started to get ready as the transfer is starting to wrap up. I also had the chance to eat some pastel, which is a Brazilian street food which I haven't had since I left home and enjoy very much, I went to a place that only opens one weekend a month in my area so that was really nice. Received a care box from home, sweet!!!!
Week 48
Things got a bit more interesting, as it was the last week before the transfer. We had the chance to do lots more street contacting which was cool, we also got to visit with some different members than usual which was also nice. Towards the end of the week things got hectic though. On Sunday I had the chance to give a talk in the ward, and it was a pretty nice experience. I got to talk about hope and the power that it can give us as we go throughout our daily trials. Its through Christ that we can endure hard things, and He is where we put our hope in. On Monday we got our transfer calls, and basically everything changed, haha! I learned that Elder Brown and I both got transferred up to Prince George, Elder Ross was going to Surrey and our area would actually become a sister area! It was a pretty crazy transfer call, and honestly we didn't expect so many chances at once. On Tuesday we got the chance to hang out with a bunch of elders one last time before going up, it was a lot of fun.
Week 49
When the crazy gets crazier! Originally, I thought I would be flying up to Prince George which is kind of the “normal” when you are send to that side of the mission, so I packed as if I was. We then find out that we were actually DRIVING up and it was going to be a 10hr trip, you read it right TEN hours drive. I was excited but not, haha. We (Elder Brown and I) got ready and left North Shore Vancouver Wednesday morning, around 9:30pm we arrived in William’s Lake, the area where Elder Brown was transferred to, not my final destination yet, haha. The next morning Elder Simpson (who also got transferred from William’s Lake to Prince George) and I left bright and early and drove towards Prince George, we reach our new apartment at 10am, unpacked, got settled and went to work. The road trip was very nice, so many beautiful areas. Another interesting and different thing was that I had to drive a full size truck which I never did before, I'm used to smaller cars, so it took me a bit of getting used to. But now it is all good, the weather in Prince George gets a little extreme during the winter so we need trucks to move around.
I am now living in an apartment with other 3 missionaries, my new companion is Elder Barlow (from St. George), who was actually MTC companion with Elder Brown which is pretty funny, it really is a small world, hahaha. I am still trying to figure out if Elder Barlow is related to my uncle David W. Barlow since they have the same last name and they are both from Utah. He is cool and a really hard worker, I am sure we will have a nice time as companions. The apartment on the other hand is a big step down from my old one, haha. I guess I got way too spoiled in North Vancouver. But it is part of a missionary’s life, you never know where you will live until you get there. I'm still very excited to be up here, and excited for what's to come.
Hope everyone is doing well wherever you may be!
